Deep dive

dicebear is a deterministic avatar and illustration library: the same seed string always produces the same face, across 30+ styles — so a user's avatar is stable without storing an image.

It ships as an HTTP API that returns avatars as SVG or PNG, a CLI for batch generation, and a browser editor where you assemble a single avatar piece by piece — plus the official dicebear/styles package that holds the style collection.

The core is a small npm/PHP library with no runtime dependencies on your app, which is why it shows up in everything from onboarding flows to comment systems.
