Deep dive

Khoj is an open-source AI second brain: it chats with any local or online LLM (llama3, qwen, gemma, mistral and more) and answers from both the internet and your own documents — images, PDFs, Markdown and org files included.

Because it runs local models by default, your documents can stay on your machine while you still get retrieval-augmented answers; the team publishes regular quality evaluations of its retrieval on their blog.

It ships as a self-hostable app plus a hosted option (app.khoj.dev), with full documentation on docs.khoj.dev and an open-source desktop client (Pipali) in the same family.

Use cases

Search your second brain in natural language
Summarise scattered notes and chat history
Run a private assistant without sending data out
